New Shoes, New Page and New Book

And so yes. The never-ending book shopping spree still continues. I bought a strategy guide for World of Warcraft yesterday. It was $25 which I thought was pretty expensive…but I bought it anyway because I’m a big sucker.

I may end up taking it back and getting it exchanged for a few cheaper items. I’ve never felt guilty for spending my hard earned money on books, but I am starting to feel a little stupid for spending $25 on ONE book. I’ll let Nick look at it a little later, and if he likes it and feels he can use it then we’ll keep it. If not, then it’s back to Borders you go! :p

I also got a new pair of shoes yesterday, which I was desperately in need of. I needed to replace my canvas slip ons so I found a really awesome Airwalk pair that I found at Payless (hey, don’t knock it till you try it!) I live for Payless Shoes…they have some really awesome stuff that doesn’t break my budget.

I want to replace my black leather ballet flats next and they had some really awesome pairs…but I REFUSE to buy American Eagle shoes. I made a pact with myself that I would never give any of my money to richie-rich, preppy kid companies like AE or Abercrombie & Fitch or Hollister. Those places just make my skin crawl and they’re so pretentious. So even though I liked the shoes, I have my principles. I’ll check out what they have at Target…I might find something I like there ;)

And last but definetely not least, I now have a photo gallery with a few photos of myself and Abby. Feel free to peruse at your own time ;) It’s the second page which is called ‘Blurred Negatives’ :D

TIMBER!!!

So yeah. Today has been an awesome day so far. I’m being sarcastic, yes I’m aware that it’s the lowest form of wit.

I walk into Abby’s bedroom this morning around 8am only to find that one of her shelves has fallen off the wall and there are books all over the floor. Abby is sitting on the bed with a red mark on her nose and I automatically get worried about her nose (since we don’t have health insurance- so I start praying that it isn’t broken). Nick is of course sleeping, but I call him anyway and he checks her nose out and lucky for us, it’s just grazed and not broken in the slightest. Phew. But now we have this giant cloud o doom hanging over our heads which is called ‘The Broken Shelf’. Abby’s obviously gotten tall enough in the year and a half we’ve lived here that she can now stand on her tippytoes and reach the books. Or in this case, stand on her tippytoes, hold onto shelf and try to reach the book. By the scale of the damage to the actual shelf and the wall, it looks like she put too much weight on it and she pulled it off the wall.

The hole in the wall isn’t too serious but it’s bad enough to warrant a trip to Home Depot for some patching supplies. The shelf of course, can’t be reused but the brackets are in good shape so all we need to do is buy another shelf. Nick has stated that it’s not going back in her room though, so maybe we can use it somewhere else in the apartment. He’s going to buy her a cheapo bookcase, but it’s not going in her room either. We’ll probably leave it out in the hallway outside her room- if you leave her alone with books she thinks it’s great fun to tear them to pieces. I don’t know why and I’ve lost count of how many times we’ve scolded her for doing it..but it just seems to go in one ear and out the other. She’s like a minature teenager- hopefully preschool will straighten her out a little this autumn. Ahahah. I make it sound like I’m sending her to boot camp :p

Here’s some photos of the damage. First one is Abby’s nose:

More Books!!

I finally got my package today from the Doubleday Book Club. I had contemplated on joining for years, so I finally did it. I can get my books about 30% cheaper through them than trekking downtown to Borders…so I signed up online and now I have my book package!

I got the following books:

  • Yum-O! The Family Cookbook- Rachael Ray
  • Marley and Me- John Grogan
  • The Notebook- Nicholas Sparks
  • The Wedding- Nicholas Sparks
  • Home: A Memoir- Julie Andrews
  • When The Heart Cries- Cindy Woodsmall

I’d been wanting to read a few of those books for a long time, and I’ve finally got the chance. And the nice thing was that the package cost me less than $20. Bargainous! :D

I’d been letting pig-out Friday slide for a little bit. I’m still eating, only not updating. Silly me. So tonight I ate/drank:

  • 3 bottles of PBR (Pabst Blue Ribbon for you non-beer drinkers)
  • 1 Little Debbie Strawberry Cupcake
  • 2 multi-grain crispbreads
  • 1 package of Little Debbie Nutty Bars
  • 1 small bowl of air-popped popcorn (not that microwave crap)

So all in all, a pretty healthy pig-out Friday. What a change, LOL :p

Mailbox Importance

So something pretty special happened over the last week. I officially got appointed as the Church Librarian! I had volunteered my services to the church over the Christmas period and I’d been slowly chipping away at the mess that is the Library, and then this week my name officially got put on the ‘Librarian’ mail slot in the Church Office. Which means my name is now also on the church bulletins every Sunday.

The library is a very slow and arduous process, but the Pastor is helping me too and together we’re getting it done. We’re both very creative people, so together we have some really good ideas and visions for the library. When I first set foot in the room, I felt very oppressed and libraries shouldn’t feel like that to me. So we’re getting rid off about 50% of the books and switching the furniture around. Hopefully, we can get the trustee board to agree to buying some new books and adding a coat of paint to the room- because for the time being it’s just white, and I think it needs a little bit of colour.

I also have to write a letter to the trustee board to state what I think needs to happen to the library, and I’m gonna need a little help I think. I have all these ideas in my head, but I have no clue whether they’re going to work or whether they’d be appropriate for a church library. Maybe I can call up some other churches and see how they have their libraries.
