Brunch At Friends

So after church today, we (myself and Abby) went for brunch at a friends house. They live in the same area as us, but a little bit further north- almost into the next town. So anyway, I’d seen their house from the outside before but never the inside. As soon as I stepped in through the door, I was amazed at how relaxed the house felt. It was so immaculate, but not so much that you didn’t feel comfortable. I’d always liked the couple since I’d met them last Christmas. They’re both well suited and really friendly. I really hate going to other people’s houses because they always make me feel bad about my own. So the food was amazing and we were there for about four hours, chatting up a storm and talking about everything under the sun. But I didn’t eat too much, and I was happy about that because I hate eating so much that I feel like I’m going to burst :p

So tonight I felt so antsy that I cleaned the house from top-to-bottom. Going to house stores has the same effect on me, I get so many ideas that I scrub the house clean and then rearrange. I know it’s a bit strange for me to call it a house when it’s an apartment, but I’m a bit weird like that. I never realised how much of a time eater playing around on the computer is, but last night I got all my cleaning done (including going round with the vacuum cleaner- at 10.30pm!) before 11pm. Which gave me enough time to lock up, turn off everything and get ready for bed. And then I read for 30 minutes before falling asleep.

My friend’s house also made me realise how plain our apartment is. I need to put more stuff on the walls :p I got to hit a rummage sale that was around the corner from the house, and I picked up a Fisher-Price school bus and a vintage Heinz tin (which was a total bargain for $2!) I love vintage stuff, I like playing into the whole housewife thing and I find it’s easy to get into when you’re surrounded by awesome vintage stuff. Like when I wear my vintage apron from the thrift store, it’s like the spirit of it’s previous owner is still in.

I’m gonna ask my friends at church to keep an eye out for vintage tins. I want more now, I’m hooked :D I actually use them too. I put my big bag of kernel corn in my Heinz tin so I can access it easily when I want to make some popcorn. I need more shelves too, oh and some of those awesome tin signs. The apartment manager next door has some really awesome ones, but she’s into the more Santa-Fe feel, not really the retro/kitchy 1950’s thing that I am. Ooh I have the need to hit a thrift store now and look for awesome kitchen stuff :p
