The three of us were at Target earlier today and I have no clue why Nick wanted to stop by. As far as I knew, we didn’t have much money left in the bank. Turns out we were spending the $330 tax refund that we’d received in the mail a few days back. So we bought a few things like kitchen gadgets (Nick wanted a meat mallet and one of those flat scraper things he keeps seeing on the Food Network), two small bottles of peach tea and a cardboard scratch pad for the cats. I was trying to get him to splurge and buy my Mother’s Day gift (I really want Pokemon Diamond for my DS, I want the dalmation version of Nintendogs too…but I’m gonna have to get that myself)…but he said no and I had to wait until the 23rd when he got another paycheck. Oh well, no harm in trying :p
So I’ve been spending most of the evening getting the cats to use the scratch pad. Peanut lets me pick up her legs and I show her what to do with her paws and then I give her a treat. One problem with that though, Peanut doesn’t like treats. I know, shocking. So I just have to pet her lots and give her lots of love. With Mercia, it’s easy because I know for a fact that she will do anything for a treat. Heck, I imagine I could teach her how to do cartwheels if I had the patience :p She won’t scratch on there YET, but I give her a treat every time she puts her paws on there. I figure I’ll start small, she might take a while. We sprinkled some catnip on it too (it came with this huge bag…I like to call it kitty pot, LOL) and Mercia’s just been lying by the scratch pad all evening. She LOVES it and it calms her down, she’s such a fiesty cat. She lies around with this dopey look on her face and actually lets me pick her up when she’s high on catnip. I can’t do that any other time.
So wish me luck on this endeavour. I just need them to stop scratching my poor easy chair to pieces
